Thoma, Hans (1839-1924)

German painter. He was at his best in realistic studies of German landscape, though he also painted some symbolic works.

He studied at Karlsruhe and in Paris, where he was influenced by Gustave Courbet. He became Academy professor and museum director in Karlsruhe 1899.
