Thoma, Wilhelm Ritter von

German general in World War II. He commanded a Panzer Regiment in Poland 1939, then joined the Mobile Troops Office in General Headquarters. He led the 6th and then 20th Panzer Divisions in the invasion of the USSR 1941 and September 1942 was given command of the Afrika Korps. He was captured by the British 4 November 1942 during the Second Battle of El Alamein.
