Thorne, John

    0.04 sec.

Thorne, John (died 1573)

English organist, composer, and poet. He was appointed organist of York Minster in 1542, and worked there in various capacities until two years before his death.

A motet, Stella Coeli, was copied by John Baldwin, and another, Exsultabant Sancti, survives in organ score. A four-part In Nomine also survives, and there are three poems by him in the same manuscript as Redford's ‘Play of Wit and Science’ in the British Library and in the ‘Paradyse of Daintie Devices’ (1576).
