Thornthwaite, Charles

Thornthwaite, Charles (Warren) (1899–1963)

US climatologist and geographer. In 1946 he established the Laboratory of Climatology with Seabrook Farms, New Jersey, where he made important contributions to his field. Thornthwaite was born in Bay County, Michigan. He took his PhD at the University of California: Berkeley in 1930, taught at the University of Oklahoma (1927–34), and spent several years with the climatic division of the US Soil Conservation Service.
