Thorold

City in southern Ontario, Canada, on the Welland Canal, adjacent to St Catharines and 13 km/8 mi west of Niagara Falls; population (1991) 17,500. It is an industrial and shipping centre; it manufactures paper, pulp, timber, and abrasives.

The Battle of Beaver Dams, during the War of 1812, took place here on 24 June 1813.

For the film buffs, there is a BAFTA-nominated 1949 British adaptation fantasy-horror adaptation of the story by Thorold Dickinson.
