Thorvaldsen (or Thorwaldsen), Bertel (c. 1770–1844)

Danish neoclassical sculptor. He went to Italy on a scholarship 1796 and stayed in Rome for most of his life, producing portraits, monuments, and religious and mythological works. Much of his work is housed in the Thorvaldsen Museum, Copenhagen.
