Thuille, Ludwig

    0.03 sec.

Thuille, Ludwig (1861–1907)

Austrian composer. In 1883 he became professor at the Munich school, and there was influenced by Richard Strauss and Alexander Ritter, who wrote the libretto for his first opera, the two later ones being by Otto Julius Bierbaum. Apart from teaching and composition, he also conducted the male-voice choir Liederhort.

He learnt music from his father, an amateur, on whose death he was sent as a choirboy to the monastery of Kremsmünster. At the age of 15 he began to study with Joseph Pembaur in Innsbruck, and in 1879 he went to the Music School at Munich, where Rheinberger was among his masters.
