Tiel

Town in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands, on the River Waal, 30 km/19 mi east of Nijmegen; population (1996) 34,700. It is the centre of a fruit-growing district and has a large jam factory. In the Middle Ages Tiel was a member of the Hanseatic League.
