Tiffin

City and administrative headquarters of Seneca County, northwestern Ohio, on the Sandusky River, 40 km/25 mi northeast of Findlay; population (1990) 18,600. It was named after Edward Tiffin (1766–1829), Ohio's first governor. It manufactures heavy machinery, pipe fittings, grinding wheels, wire/electrical products, glass, and pottery.

Settlement first began in the area near Fort Ball, used as a depot by the army in the War of 1812. Tiffin became an industrial centre after the discovery of nearby natural gas in 1888. It is the seat of Heidelberg College (1850) and Tiffin University (1888).
