Tigrane, Il

    0.04 sec.

Tigrane, Il

Opera by Gluck (libretto by Francesco Silvani, altered by Goldoni), produced in Crema (in northern Italy) on 26 September 1743. It is also the title of operas by Alessandro Scarlatti (Naples, 1715) and Johann Hasse (Naples, 1729). As a child Tigranes was kidnapped by the Emperor Cyrus from his mother Thonyris. Later he is torn between love for his betrothed, Meroe, and duty. Eventually, all is resolved when Tigranes's true identity is revealed.
