Tikhonov, Nikolai Aleksandrovich (1905–1997)

Soviet politician. He was a close associate of President Brezhnev, joining the Politburo 1979, and was prime minister (chair of the Council of Ministers) 1980–85. In April 1989 he was removed from the Central Committee.
