Time Warner Inc.

Worldwide media company which operates several media businesses. Time Warner was formed through the merger of Time Inc and Warner Communications (formerly Warner Bros) in 1990. It merged with Turner Broadcasting in 1996 and with the Internet company America Online in 2001. The resulting Time Warner Inc company operates a range of businesses, including: cable networks, publishing, filmed entertainment, music, and information systems.

Time Warner's Cable Networks group operates franchises in television news and entertainment, and includes the US CNN News Group and Home Box Office (HBO). Its publishing business dates from Time magazine (founded in 1923), and now publishes other magazines, such as People, Fortune, and Sports Illustrated. Its book publishing companies have included Time Life Books; Little, Brown and Company; Warner Books; and the Book-of-the-Month Club. Following the 1990 merger with Warner Communications and the 2000 merger with EMI, Time Warner's music business occupies a large proportion of the worldwide music and film industry, which incorporates Warner Bros and New Line Cinema. When it merged with the Turner Broadcasting System, the company acquired CNN and several sports venues, including the Atlanta Braves professional baseball team.
