chronology

In archaeology, the sequencing of events or objects on a time scale. In dealing with recorded history, it is related to established calendars, but the dating of prehistory is more complicated, being dependent on archaeological and geological evidence.

Scientific absolute dating techniques and relative dating methods have made possible the construction of a reliable chronology back to the beginnings of human development – Homo habilis, 1.8 million years ago.
