Timoleon

Greek politician and general of Corinth. Having overthrown the tyranny of his brother Timophanes in Corinth, he retired from public life. He was prevailed upon to return in order to defend the Greek cities in Sicily against tyrants such as Dionysius II of Syracuse. He defeated Dionysius and fought the Carthaginians, who supported the other tyrants, at the battle of Crimessus in 341 BC. He took measures to stabilize the economy and government of Greek Sicily and again retired from public life.
