Tindouf

Saharan oasis in the Aïn-Sefra region of Algeria, crossed by the Agadir–Dakar desert route; population (1998) 30,000. There are large iron ore deposits in the area. The oasis acted as a base for exiled Polisario guerrillas from the Western Sahara.

Seven people were held on October 8 at Casablanca airport, after they visited Western Sahara refugee camps run by the Polisario at Tindouf in southwest Algeria.
