Tischbein, Wilhelm (1751–1829)
| German painter. He painted historical subjects, portraits, and still life. He lived in Italy 1779–89 and made a portrait of the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe among classical ruins in the Roman Campagna (which earned him the nickname of ‘Goethe Tischbein’). |
