Titusville

Town and administrative headquarters of Brevard County, east Florida, USA; population (2000) 40,700. It is situated on the Indian River, 56 km/35 mi east-northeast east of Orlando. It is connected by causeway to Cape Canaveral, which lies 24 km/15 mi to the east. The city grew quickly with the construction of space program facilities in the 1950s and 1960s; the Kennedy Space Center is nearby. Industries include aerospace, citrus fruits, and sport fishing. Titusville was founded 1867. It is a popular winter resort.
