Toamasina

Formerly (until 1979) Tamatave port and coastal resort on the east coast of Madagascar; population (2001 est) 179,000. It is the country's principal port, from which sugar, coffee, and tea are major exports.

The worst affected region was Analanjirifo, north of the eastern port of Toamasina, where the cyclone has left almost 25,000 people homeless.
The project team plans to produce 9,000 units in its first year and 36,000 units in the second year, benefiting a community up to 180,000 people in the Toamasina region.
