Death in Venice

Opera by Benjamin Britten (libretto by Myfanwy Piper, after Thomas Mann), first produced at Snape Maltings, Suffolk, England, on 16 June 1973. The story tells how the writer Aschenbach, a believer in order, is seduced by the passion of Venice; his frustrated love of beauty and of the boy Tadzio destroys his ideals and finally himself.
