Todhunter, Isaac (1820-1884)

English mathematician, author of many standard textbooks on algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and Euclidean geometry that attained worldwide circulation

Todhunter was born at Rye, in Kent. He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, where he was a brilliant scholar, and was in time made a fellow and lecturer. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1862. In addition to textbooks, he also wrote on the history of 19th-century mathematics.
