Todmorden

Town in West Yorkshire, England, 17 km/11 mi west of Halifax, on the River Calder and the Rochdale Canal; population (2001) 11,800. It has cotton-weaving and spinning factories, light engineering, foundries and machine shops, and manufactures clothes, venetian blinds, tubular steel furniture, and sanitary pipes and fittings. The town developed because of the nearby Lancashire cotton industry.
