Tombigbee

River flowing through Mississippi and Alabama, USA; length 640 km/400 mi. It is formed by the confluence of its East and West forks in northeast Mississippi and flows south to join the Alabama River, forming the Mobile River.

The Tennessee–Tombigbee Waterway, opened in 1985, uses the river and its East Fork to connect the Tennessee River with the Gulf of Mexico.

Course

The Tombigbee runs through the Columbus area before entering Alabama, where it winds southeast to Demopolis and is joined by the Black Warrior River. Continuing south, it joins the Alabama north of the Mobile area.
