Tompkins County

County in south-central New York State, in the Finger Lakes and containing the southern part of Cayuga Lake; area 1,235 sq km/477 sq mi; population (1990) 94,100. Its capital and only large city is Ithaca, which influences much of the economy of this small rural county. Agricultural products include dairy goods, grain, poultry, and fruit. There are resorts around the lake.
