Toovey, Andrew (1962– )

English composer. He studied with Jonathan Harvey, and with Morton Feldman at Dartington. He was director of Ixion from 1987, giving performances of music by Xenakis, Cage, and Ferneyhough.

Chamber

Winter Solstice for voice and seven players; Untitled String Quartet (1985); Ate for chamber ensemble (1986); Shining for violin and cello (1987); String Quartet Music (1987); Shimmer Bright for string trio (1988); Black Light for chamber ensemble (1989); Mozart for strings (1991).

Music theatre

The Spurt of Blood (1990), Ubu (1992) and The Juniper Tree (1993).

Works for piano

Artaud (1986), Out Jumps Jack Death (1989), Down there by the Sea (1989), and Embrace (two pianos, 1990).
