Topsham

Town in southwestern Maine, on the Androscoggin River opposite Brunswick, 10 km/6 mi upstream from Merrymeeting Bay; population (1990) 8,700. Its history and industrial development have been closely associated with Brunswick. The Great Bowdoin Mill, a former paper mill that closed in the 1980s, is a listed historic site.

The town includes the villages of Topsham and Pejepscot.

A fine, old-fashioned stamp of a chaser, Topsham Bay was trained by David Barons and won the Whitbread Gold Cup in 1992 and 1993, becoming only the second horse to win the race twice.
After his tour with the US Navy, David moved to Topsham and worked for Harry E.
The tracks helped lead authorities to a second thief, Eric Wallace, 22, of Topsham, Maine.
