Tornatore, Giuseppe (1956– )

Italian film director who won international acclaim with his second film, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso/Cinema Paradiso (1988), which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.

Tornatore began his career as a photographer and went on to become a television director specializing in documentaries. His first feature film was Il Camorrista/The Professor (1986). His other films include Stanno Tutti Bene/Everybody's Fine (1990), Una Pura Formalità/A Pure Formality (1994), L'Uomo Delle Stelle/The Star Maker (1995), La Leggenda del Pianista Sull'Oceano/The Legend of 1900 (1998), and Malèna (2000).
