Torres, Luis Vaez de (lived 17th century)

Spanish navigator who, in 1605, sailed with an expedition under the command of Pedro Fernandez de Quiros in search of the supposed southland (Terra Australis Incognito). His navigation through the strait between New Guinea and Australia earned him the honour of the strait being named after him.
