Torstensson, Lennart

Torstensson, Lennart (1603–1651)

Swedish soldier who served under king Gustavus Adolphus in the Thirty Years' War, and then became commander-in-chief of Swedish forces in 1641. His greatest victory was at the second battle of Breitenfeld in 1642, when he triumphed over Imperial forces. Later campaigns saw him defeat the Danes in 1643, and threaten Vienna in 1645.
