TQM

Sophisticated statistical production control that ensures that quality is built into production, removing the need, and associated costs, for having to check for it later. The concept originated in Japan and spread to Europe and the USA. TQM aims to minimize waste and reworking by achieving zero defects in production. It is not a single concept, but a collection of related concepts, many associated with lean production such as just-in-time and kaizen. Underpinning TQM is a management philosophy that advocates continuous improvement and a ‘right first time’ approach to manufacturing.
