Totenberg, Roman (1911– )

Polish-born US violinist and teacher. He studied with Carl Flesch in Berlin and Enescu in Paris, making his debut in 1922. He gave recitals in Europe with Szymanowski, 1935–36. In 1943 he became a US citizen. He was head of violin at the Aspen School of Music, 1950–60; professor of music at Boston University 1961–78; and director of the Longy School of Music at Cambridge, MA 1978–85. His recordings include Bach's solo works and the Bloch Concerto (1992).
