Towson

Community and administrative headquarters of Baltimore County, northern Maryland, 11 km/7 mi north of central Baltimore; population (1990) 49,400. It is a residential, commercial, and industrial suburb.

Settled in 1750, it became the county seat in 1854. It is home to Goucher College (1885), Towson State University (1866), and other institutions and corporate headquarters.
