Tozzi, Giorgio (1923– )

US bass. He studied in Milan and appeared on Broadway in 1948 (in Britten's Rape of Lucretia). He sang widely in Europe 1950–54, as Philip II, Don Giovanni, and Pogner. At his debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York in 1955 he sang Alvise; later roles were Figaro, Marke, Sachs, and Boris. He sang with the Boston Opera in 1977, in the US first performance of Ruslan and Ludmilla. He also appeared in musicals and films.
