Trans-jordan

Part of the former Turkish Ottoman Empire and now part of Jordan (the present-day East Bank).

Trans-jordan and Palestine were placed under British administration by a League of Nations mandate in 1920, and separated in 1923. In 1946 Britain recognized Trans-jordan as an independent sovereign state and in 1949 it changed its name to the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan.
