Travancore

Former princely state of India, stretching along the Malabar coast from Cape Comorin at the southern tip of India, to the western port of Kochi. In 1949, Travancore joined with the princely state of Cochin to form a joint state, which in turn was merged with Kerala state in 1958. The state capital of Travancore was Thiruvananthapuram.

He mentioned the LNG project in Kochi, the revival package for the Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore, the Sabarimala-Pampa project, the raising of the Kalamandalam at Thrissur as a deemed university, and the inclusion of Idukki and Kottayam in the centre's plantation package.
He was also a member of the Travancore legislative assembly in 1949 before the state of Kerala was formed and helped set up many educational, healthcare and employment institutions.
She said Kerala could proudly claim a long history of legislative bodies dating back to 1888, when Sree Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, the maharaja of Travancore, established a council for making laws and regulations, which was a path-breaking event for progressive measures in due course.
