Travers, John (c. 1703-1758)

English organist and composer. He learnt music as a choirboy at St George's Chapel, Windsor and later studied with Greene and Pepusch in London, where in his early twenties he became organist at St Paul's Church, Covent Garden, and later at Fulham church. In 1737 he succeeded Jonathan Martin as organist in the Chapel Royal.

services, anthems, Te Deum; The Whole Book of Psalms for one-five voices with continuo; 18 canzonets for two-three voices to words by Matthew Prior and others; organ voluntaries; harpsichord pieces.
