Tredegar

Town in Blaenau Gwent county borough, south Wales, on the River Sirhowy, 42 km/26 mi north of Cardiff; population (2001) 14,800. Its chief industries were formerly coal mining and light engineering, and tourism related to the town's industrial heritage is now an important source of income. A visitor centre is located at Parc Bryn Bach. Tredegar has a cast-iron clock and tower, 22 m/ 72 ft high, which was completed in 1859.

The Welsh Hang-Gliding Centre is located here. Tredegar is the birthplace of the politician Aneurin Bevan.

The title of Baron Tredegar has been borne by the family of Morgan since 1859, the family seat being Tredegar Park, near Newport.
