Trenck, Friedrich von der, Baron (1726–1794)

Prussian soldier and adventurer. After his affair with Princess Amelia of Prussia was discovered in 1745, he was imprisoned, but escaped and entered Russian military service. In 1754 he was again arrested and held in the fortress of Magdeburg until 1763. Thereafter he lived as a free-thinker and pamphleteer in several European countries until he was guillotined in Paris during the French Revolution.
