Terengganu

State of eastern Peninsular Malaysia, area 13,000 sq km/5,000 sq mi; population (2000 est) 879,700. The capital is Kuala Terengganu. The state has a thinly-populated mountainous interior and a chain of small settlements along the coast. Economically it is one of the least developed parts of Peninsular Malaysia, with fishing and rice cultivation, much of it for subsistence, providing the majority of employment. There is also some limited plantation agriculture producing rubber, coconuts, and oil palms.
