tricolourAny flag or similar made up of three colours. The French national flag has three vertical bands of red, white, and blue. The red and blue were the colours of Paris and the white represented the royal house of Bourbon. The flag was first adopted on 17 July 1789, three days after the storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution. The Russian tricolour, introduced in 1991, is red, white, and blue.
