trip-hop

Pop music combining electronic sampling with rap and jazz stylings for a languid, spacy effect. It originated in Bristol, England in the 1990s. Exponents include Tricky, Massive Attack, and Portishead, whose debut album Dummy (1994) introduced the genre to a wide audience.
