Triumphes of Oriana, The

English collection of madrigals written in honour of Queen Elizabeth I, edited by Morley and published in 1601. It was modelled on the Italian collection of Il Trionfo di Dori of 1592 and contains a similar series of different poems all ending with the same line, ‘Long live fair Oriana’.

There are 25 pieces by 23 English composers: Bennet, Carlton, Cavendish, Cobbold, Este, Farmer, Edward Gibbons (2), Hilton, Holmes, Hunt, E Johnson, Robert Jones, Kirby, Lisley, Marson, Milton, Morley (2), Mundy, Nicolson, Norcome, T Tomkins, Weelkes, and Wilbye. A madrigal by Bateson intended for the collection arrived too late and was included in his own First Set of English Madrigals (1604).
