Troilus and Cressida

Opera in three acts by Walton (libretto by C Hassall, after Chaucer), produced at Covent Garden, London, on 3 December 1954. It was revived at Covent Garden, London, on 12 November 1976, with Cressida's role altered to mezzo (Janet Baker). In the story, the Trojan Troilus follows Cressida when she accompanies her father Calchas to the Greek camp; although they love each other, she agrees to marry Diomede after she believes Troilus has abandoned her. But all is revealed before Calchas stabs Troilus in a fight and Cressida commits suicide.
