Trollhättan

Trollhättan

Town in Älvsborg county, southwestern Sweden; population (1995) 52,500. The Trollhätta Falls, over 30 m/98 ft high, generate power for the surrounding factories. These include Saab car-assembly and engine works.

A sophisticated system of locks was built in the 19th century to enable ships to pass from Lake Vänern along the River Göta to Göteborg through the Trollhätta Falls. It was rebuilt in 1910.

There is a Saab museum in Trollhättan.
