Opera by Verdi (libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, based on a Spanish play, El trovador, by Antonio Garcia Gutiérrez), produced at the Teatro Apollo, Rome, on 19 February 1853. In the story, Manrico and Count Luna are rivals for the love of Leonora. When Luna is unsuccessful he orders Manrico's execution.
