Troy, Jean François de

Troy, Jean François de (1679–1752)

French painter. He painted historical subjects, fêtes galantes, and hunting scenes. He also produced designs for Gobelins tapestries.

He was born in Paris and became the pupil of his father François de Troy (1645–1730). After six years in Rome, he enjoyed a long and successful career in France. He became director of the French Academy at Rome 1738. An example of his work is The Hunt Breakfast (Wallace Collection, London).
