Trumbull, Jonathan

Trumbull, Jonathan (1710–1785)

American revolutionary, governor of Connecticut 1769–84. During the American Revolution he had considerable influence on George Washington, who referred to him always as ‘Brother Jonathan’.

Trumbull had six children, including the politician Jonathan Trumbull, Jr, who also became governor of Connecticut, and the artist John Trumbull.
