Trumper, Victor Thomas (1877–1915)

Australian cricketer from New South Wales who his country's most famous player until the emergence of Don Bradman in the late 1920s. A brilliant and graceful right-handed batsman, he had the ability to make big scores by unorthodox methods on the most treacherous wickets.

runs: 16,939; average: 44.57; hundreds: 42; best: 300 not out (v. Sussex 1899)

Thus he was at his best in the wet English summer of 1902, when he scored 2,570 runs and hit 11 centuries, including the first ever Test hundred before lunch, at Old Trafford. In runs in 48 Tests between 1899 and 1912 he scored 3,163 runs at an average of 39.04.
