Truscott, Lucian K, Jr (1895–1965)

US general in World War II. He commanded the forward headquarters in the North African campaign of 1942 and was then given command of the 3rd Infantry Division for the attack on Sicily and Italy in 1943. He replaced General Lucas as commander of US VI Corps in February 1944 and later led the advance on Rome. In August 1944, VI Corps formed part of 7th Army and landed in southern France, advancing rapidly up the Rhone valley. Truscott returned to Italy in April 1945 to command the US 5th Army in the final phases of the campaign.
