Trustee Savings Bank

UK bank with more than 1,500 branches and assets of over £22 billion by 1990. It was founded in Scotland in 1810 as a nonprofit savings bank with each branch managed by local trustees; it was later was financed by the government, but was privatized in 1986. In 1995 it announced it would be merging with Lloyds Bank, to form the UK's largest retail bank.
