Truth or Consequences

City and administrative headquarters of Sierra County, southwestern New Mexico, on the Rio Grande, 100 km/60 mi northwest of Las Cruces; population (1990) 6,200. A former health resort with mineral springs, it is a trade centre for livestock and agricultural producers.

Formerly Springs of Palomas, then (1916) Hot Springs, it changed its name in 1950 to that of Ralph Edwards's radio show as a condition for being chosen as the site of a live broadcast. Ralph Edwards Park and museum are here.
